Money worries are a key area of concern for many right now. Employees are going into their workplaces every day with the stresses of everyday financial "stuff" following them around. That means that they're not focused 100% on work.
They're tired, because they're not sleeping well, and they're worried about the impact of the money concerns on them and their family.
But within the workplace we find it difficult to talk about these things. Which means that, so often, the help only comes when it is really too late.
Time is taken off as stress-induced ill health takes a grip. Debt support might be offered, but by then the stress has already taken hold.
Embarrassment, shame and fear of judgement - are all reasons why people don't open up about their financial concerns.
As experts in the financial sector, we know the difference employers can make when it comes to the financial wellbeing of their employees, without the need to keep increasing salaries.
70% of under 55’s say that money worries are affecting them at work.
Over 400,000 people in the UK every year consider taking their own lives due to money worries.
Half of all UK adults say they don’t feel confident with basic money management.
At the Financial Wellbeing Academy, we want to eliminate financial stresses in the workplace, creating a culture where talking about money is not to be feared, by either employee or employer.
We know that the links between financial stresses and mental health issues are significant, so we encourage employers not to look at either one in isolation.
Our vision is to have at least one Workplace Financial Champion in every team, shift, office, building site, hospital ward, police & fire station, warehouse, factory and shop floor.
Because money worries are not confined to just a handful of people - and the sooner we can spot the signs and provide support, the more burnout, mental health issues, and long term financial stress we can avoid.
Eliminate the taboo that still surrounds money talk, and create a safe and confident financial future for everyone - including your business.
A Financial Champion is a dedicated, trained person in the team, equipped to be the first port of call when it comes to financial worries - like a First Aider but for money stresses!
Champions will know the signs to look for, the things to listen out for, and then to be able to offer basic, but sound, support in helping colleagues deal with their money worries.
Whether that means sitting down and working out budgets together, being able to direct them to more specialist support, or simply being the person who your colleagues feel safe to say "I'm struggling" to, and who can then sit over a cuppa to create that immediate sense of relief.

The Financial Champion initiative has been proudly created by Kim Uzzell, Chartered Fellow CISI and Founder of The Financial Wellbeing Academy.
With an investment and wealth management career spanning 35 years, coupled with almost 20 years’ experience in coaching, mentoring and teaching and decades of “real life” money stuff to deal with along the way, Kim left her regulated career during the Pandemic, to focus on supporting a wider number of people with recognising and effectively dealing with their financial stresses.
Regardless of age, salary bracket or geographic location, money worries can affect any one at any time - whether it’s the impact of rising interest rates or the effects of a relationship breakdown, Kim knows no one is immune.
All trainings are delivered either by Kim herself, or by associate coaches personally trained to Kim’s own high standards.

Cost Effective
Based on an affordable rate per delegate, and with discounts available for larger numbers, regardless of what you’ve already allocated your wellbeing budget to, this is not going to break the bank - and the ROI potential is significant.
Improving Workplace Culture
We spend such a large proportion of our time at work, and we don’t want to be replacing money stress at home with money stress at work. We discuss the ways in which you can create a culture of financial safety and security around money, with a goal of eliminating fear and judgement.
Impactful Beyond the Workplace
Financial confidence doesn’t just benefit people at work -
it leads to better conversations around money at home and in the community for the next generation to become financially resilient too - the ripple effect is huge!
More Effective than a Pay Increase
You may feel under pressure to raise salaries, but the reality is that this is often a quick fix, soon lost through increased spending. By supporting your staff in having a better relationship with their money, easier conversations and more effective money management, the pressure to provide extra money is reduced.
Effective early signposting to debt support or other specialist areas can mean a quicker resolution and sustainable reduction in money stresses.
No Conflict of Interest
Introducing Financial Champions does NOT take the place of your existing financial advice provision, if you have it.
Neither does it interfere with your other wellbeing or L&D provision.
Instead, this work enhances the work being done elsewhere - meaning you get an even better return on your investment and greater impact for your employees.
